The Christmas Carols // Elizabeth's Song
12/06/2020
It’s Christmas time again, which for many is the most wonderful time of the year. A time that we celebrate the birth of Jesus, give and receive gifts, and sing. We sing Christmas songs called carols. In fact, many people still go caroling. Have you ever wondered what a ‘Carol’ even is? It is more than a baby’s name, it is a word for a song of praise and joy. Here at Cornerstone, we love to sing. And we will be celebrating with songs of praise and joy, with Christmas carols, many of which have some incredibly wonderful lyrics. Take for instance this verse from the oddly titled song, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen: “Fear not then, said the AngelLet nothing you affrightThis day is born a SaviorOf a pure Virgin brightTo free all those who trust in HimFrom Satan's pow'r and mightOh tidings of comfort and joyComfort and joyOh tidings of comfort and joyWhat a powerful, Christ-exalting song of praise and joy...a Christmas Carol. This Advent season, we will be looking at the original Christmas Carols, the ones from the bible. We will learn the carols that were written and sung by Elizabeth, Mary, Zechariah, an angel, Simeon, and a special one you may not be familiar with. Come join us as we learn to sing these songs from our hearts and witness of Jesus Christ to the end of the earth!
