Christians have three invisible enemies that the Bible warns about: Satan, this world system, and the flesh. The mastermind of the three is the devil, and he has schemes, strategies, and ploys. “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Ephesians 6:11. Many Christians today are unaware of these schemes. The Apostle Paul taught the early churches and us about the devil’s strategies “So that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs.” 2 Corinthians 2:11. But here is what we must understand: Satan does not have unlimited strategies and schemes. He is the master recycler, taking the same few and using them over and over against humanity, especially God’s people. In this series, we will look back at the Old Testament to learn about some of these schemes and watch how God overcame them by raising up faithful servants. We may be surprised to see that what this fearsome enemy did thousands of years ago, is the same thing he is doing in our generation today. Rampant materialism, the attacks on gender, abortion of babies, division, and rebellion are all stuck on repeat.
