Competency (This section describes your natural gifting and talents.)
What are your natural skills/talents?
-
Problem solving. I enjoy dissecting problems or issues and finding simple and achievable solutions. Study. I strive to know as much as I can about a topic, checking resources that both agree with or refute my understanding of an issue. Driven. Once I get an idea or task to do, I pour as much effort and energy as possible into getting the task completed.
Are you most comfortable behind the scenes or out in front?
-
I’m more comfortable behind the scenes but have no problems with leading from the front.
In what ways has spiritual growth been evident in your life in the past 6 months?
-
I have been seeing a change in my reactions to the world and the darkness that at times seems oppressive. I have been leaning more on scripture and the knowledge that God is in control. Speaking biblical truths to people with a lessening fear of offense is of the spirit and uplifting to continue to proclaim Jesus.
How do you see your natural skills/talents being used by God for the building up of the body of Christ?
-
Studying will help with confidence in answering the tough questions asked by both believers and unbelievers. Solving problems biblically with the help of the Spirit for guidance will hopefully help me to better understand our Lord and allow me the grace to help others in their faith.
Chemistry (This section will help identify how well you will fit in with the culture of Cornerstone.)
How do you believe you will fit in well with our Board?
-
I look forward to working with the board, understanding their backgrounds and learning from their experiences. Of course, being a new member, I would defer to those already on the board, but I hope that I can bring ideas and thoughts to the table that are well-received.
Why do you want to join the Board?
-
I was genuinely surprised when asked to consider being an elder. It was an honor to be recognized as someone who portrayed the qualities that Cornerstone valued for leadership, when I was just trying to be my best self. After prayer and consideration, I felt that I should honor that confidence in me and see what the Lord has planned for me.
How do you see yourself best serving at your campus?
-
I’m not exactly sure, but I believe that I should serve the needs of March Street. With Pastor Tony leaving, I could only imagine that there will be plenty of needs to be met, and I feel I should help wherever and whenever, as much as possible.
Capacity (This section identifies your bandwidth and how much you are able to take on.)
Do you work well with large groups, small groups? Older people, younger? Do you have particular passions for areas in our church (i.e., Elderly, poor, etc)
-
I would think I work better in smaller groups where you can be more intentional with the interactions with others. At my age (60), I probably relate better with older people, but have kids in their 20’s and 30s along with 3 grandchildren, so I can hold my own with the younger generation, but admit that their musical tastes and reliance on social media are not in my wheelhouse. My passion would be to be outdoors and helping with tasks or chores that church members are unable to perform.
How important is Cornerstone in the midst of all that is going on in your life?
-
It’s important to have a home church that teaches God's word and is filled with people who believe as you do and genuinely care about each other.
Where have you served in our church previously?
-
I’ve helped with ushering and tithe collecting, passing out communion, and greeting. Lori and I work on the Serve team, which is a great time to get to talk with people.
Calling (This section is a combination of confirmation on behalf of the current elders/deacons and your spiritual gifts as outlined in the spiritual gifts assessment.)
Are you being nominated for Elder or Deacon?
-
Elder
What are your spiritual Gift(s)?
-
I would love to say knowledge and wisdom, but I know there’s always room for more. I love encouraging others, especially in the small wins that may seem insignificant but can help build faith and confidence.
What areas of church life or ministry are you most passionate about?
-
I have always been fascinated with eschatology. I believe we are nearing the soon return of Christ and I want people to be unafraid of the things to come, be excited for these times and understand what the bible says about how people will be (2 Tim:3) and recognize the signs Jesus spoke of (Matt. 24). At the same time, we must still speak the truth of God and continue to work to bring the lost to Jesus and make disciples.
